What is VASER© Hi Def™

VASER© Hi Def™ is a revolutionary new technology to reshape your body. How does VASER© Hi Def™ differs from traditional liposuction techniques?

The traditional liposuction is to make the patient lose weight simply by eliminating some of the deep fat tissue, so-called "debulking". These conventional methods can not in any way address the superficial fat, because of the increased risk of postoperative deformities. With VASER© Hi Def™, the surgeon can not only eliminate the deep internal fat, but fat tissue surface that conceals the contours of the underlying muscles.

The consultation with the plastic surgeon

During the consultation Dr. Ronachai Komthong will find out how you feel about your body and how you visualize it after surgery. He will then examine your abdomen and carefully evaluate the quality of the skin, fatty tissue and abdominal muscles. Special note is made of the eventual presence of cellulites or of inguinal/umbilical hernias or a rectus diastasis.

These details will enable Dr. Ronchai to advise you about your High Definition Liposuction© and to explain whether you might need additional abdominoplasty or tightening of the abdominal muscles.

Surgical procedure

High Definition Liposuction© is performed in a state-of-the-art surgery theater by tumescent technique or under general anesthesia. Undesired fatty tissue is first fragmented by ultrasound energy and then gently aspirated. At the end of surgery a compressive garment is applied. The surgery takes 2 – 5 hours depending on the number of body areas that are treated as well as on the thickness and consistency of the fatty tissue. After surgery the patient is usually advised to stay in the hospital for 1-2 days for optimal recovery.

Before surgery

1.    No nicotine and only moderate alcohol consumption 14 days before surgery.

2.    Stop of anticoagulation, aspirine and hormone medication 14 days before surgery.

3.    Regular exercise to strengthen the abdominal muscles as much as possible before surgery.

4.    Stable body weight for about 3-6 months.

After surgery

The soreness during the first days after High Definition Liposuction© will vary for each patient and is usually described as a tension and discomfort that limits body movements. Oozing of watery liquid might occur for 2-3 days after surgery and is completely normal. Taking a shower and traveling is allowed within a few days postoperatively. You may return to your normal light activities 2-3 days after surgery and you will be able to make full physical efforts after 7–10 days.

Dr. Ronachai Komthong will prescribe you specific postoperative treatments during the first 2 weeks after surgery allowing a much faster postoperative recovery. Small blue spots/hematomas are possible and disappear within 2-4 weeks. Slight changes in skin sensiblity might occur and get back to normal within 8-12 weeks. The final result will be seen after 8-12 weeks when skin retraction is fully established. At this time you may also resume strenous physical activities (diving, climbing, sauna*, etc).

Postoperative recommendations

1. Wearing a compressive garment during the day and night for 4 weeks.

2. No sun exposure of the scar for 6 months.

Risks and complications

After a High Definition Liposuction© localized swelling or bruising might occur but usually resolve within 1-4 weeks. This is completely unproblematic and is part of the normal healing process. Heavy bleeding, seroma, severe alterations of electrolytes or wound infections are very rare. A transitory numbness or an increased sensibility of the treated areas as well as minimal contour irregularities might occur but usually go back to normal within 3-6 months.
