Sex change surgery in Thailand is a series of procedures designed to alter your gender appearance, from Male To Female or alternatively, from Female To Male.  This is achieved by combining a series of procedures, like breast augmentation, Adam’s apple shaving, jaw line reduction, rhinoplasty, cheek augmentation, alterations to the sex organs, a brow lift and voice alteration.

What is the length of the surgery?

The length of the surgery varies from 4 – 8 hours depending on the range of procedures being performed.

Who is a candidate for sex change surgery?

The requirements are for the patient to be physically healthy and over the age of 20.  The patient must have a strong desire to undergo the surgery for personal reasons and must have undergone twelve months of counseling to ascertain that they are psychologically ready for the alteration.  At the same time the patient must live one full year as a full time, real life experience as the opposite gender whilst undergoing hormone therapy.

How is the surgery performed?

The most dramatic change will be made to the sexual organs, dependant on whether the alternation will be from male to female, or female to male.  Incisions are made in the pelvic floor and a neo vagina is created, the penis is split and the urethra is repositioned.  The scrotal skin is cut and the testes are removed.  The skin is then used to create the labia minora and labia majora to resemble female sexual organs.  For females, the process is a three stage one, involving breast reduction, removal of the ovaries and uterus, vaginal closure, urethral lengthening and prefabrication and then phalloplasty, or fabrication of the male sex organ.

The patient can expect to stay in the hospital under close supervision for 16 nights after the surgery.

Are there any noticeable scars?

There will be noticeable scars with some red spotting for the first few months but they will fade over time.
