What is the length of the surgery?

The surgery should take between 1 – 2 hours.

How is the surgery performed?

Careful incisions are made below the eyelashes and then the skin is separated from the fatty tissue and his muscles.  Excess fat and muscle are removed and the excess skin is trimmed before the incision is carefully sewn up with fine sutures.

What are the risks and side effects involved in lower eyelid surgery?

After the initial effects of the surgery have worn off the patient will experience pain in the area, accompanied by swelling, bruising and a certain amount of hemorrhaging.  The patient should apply ice to the area for a period of 24-hours and should makes sure that the head is slightly raised while they are laying down.  Patients can expect these effects to last for anywhere between two and four weeks.

Are there any noticeable scars?

During the first six months you may notice pink scars where the incisions were made, but gradually these will fade to white lines, which will be invisible to the casual observer.

How to prepare for lower eyelid surgery in Thailand?

Two weeks before the surgery is scheduled the patient should refrain from smoking, drinking any form of alcohol or taking any types of vitamins or medications.  It is also advisable that the patient should inform the surgeon of any known allergies.

How long will healing take?

After a period of rest lasting 2 – 3 days patients are permitted to start watching television and after a period of 3 – 5 days the patient should rest and activities should be kept to a minimum.  A period of 3 weeks is advised before strenuous activities of any kind are undertaken.

Are the changes made by lower eyelid surgery permanent?

Lower eyelid surgery will have long lasting effects but is not permanent as it does not stop the eyes from ageing.  In time you may have to repeat the procedure to retain a more youthful appearance.
